ABOUT US

The courses will be taken by Charles Chalcraft.

I came from a farming background in Mid Devon and became a full time thatcher in 1986. My work was of a sufficient standard that after some rigorous inspections, I was accepted into the Devon & Cornwall Master Thatchers Association. For a short while I was the representative on the National Council of Master Thatchers. I am an Associate Member of the Devon & Cornwall Master Thatchers Association and a Member of the Residential Property Surveyors Association.

I have worked on many Thatched properties in Mid Devon and with Anna, my wife, we have "hands on" project managed major house restorations dated 1250, 1550, 1800, 1840, 1922 and 1975.

These include the following constructions:- cob, stone rubble, brick, cavity brick with ash block internal leaf, and cavity concrete block with thermalite block internal leaf. Roof construction included:- thatch, asbestos sheets, Turnerised slate, slate - natural, asbestos and cement fibre, & concrete tile.

(RPSA) Residential Property Surveyors Association.

I am now a member of the RPSA and accredited by SAVA. I am now able to undertake Home Condition Surveys.
